MedImmune

In an effort to increase and improve its operations, MedImmune built a new Headquarters Facility in Gaithersburg, Maryland and rendered the services of Himes Associates, Ltd. to provide Relocation Project Management for their relocation from six occupied buildings in Gaithersburg, Maryland and Frederick, Maryland to the new state of the art facility in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The new HQ is approximately 225,000 square feet, including 60,000 square feet of lab space. A 7,000 square foot Vivarium is also housed in the new facility and was integrated to the migration plan.

Five Hundred employees were relocated, including administrative and laboratory staff, over one weekend to minimize corporate down-time. The company's capabilities span the entire spectrum of pharmaceutical development, including discovery research, clinical development, data analysis, regulatory affairs, quality control, manufacturing, and sales and marketing. MedImmune at the time of the move had five marketed products, and eleven products in various stages of clinical testing, which Himes Associates, Ltd. had to plan around, as some business units had to be "24/7" operations.

Following the move into the new facility two additional internal moves occurred in 2005 and 2006 due to the expansion of the facility. The moves involved restacking and reorganization of 175 and 700 persons respectively. Each occurred over weekends to minimize any disruption to day to day operations.
