PROJECT SCOPE
Himes Associates, Ltd. is the development manager for this build-to-suit $35.0 million state–of-the-art simulation center that will develop technology for national security customers and all branches of the military. The 50,000 square foot project has unusual design features from it’s hexagon shaped exterior to its sophisticated audio-visual and simulation equipment. The project’s design includes numerous technical simulation/demonstration spaces bearing “Classified“ ratings as well as the ability to accommodate heavy tonnage, active-duty military vehicles, aircraft components, etc. The project schedule, including site development, engineering, design and construction, is approximately 14 months.
Himes Associates has been strategically involved in the team building and general contractor selection/procurement process to meet the demanding delivery schedule. Himes established criteria and standards for expediting construction by breaking out certain sub-construction packages that require long lead schedules and managing an early procurement process. Procurement of the balance of sub-construction packages is being managed in an open book, competitive bid fashion.
The programming and conceptual design for this building is being performed by nationally recognized defense industry expert Bran Ferren, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer for Applied Minds Inc., of Glendale, California, with DBI Architecture preparing local construction documentation. Ferren is known for his futuristic work, and formerly was Executive Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering and Company, the subsidiary that designs Disney’s theme parks. |
