Our History

It was a confluence of events that lead Paul Himes to form Himes Associates in the Washington DC area in 1982. While large conglomerates were equipped to oversee project management capabilities in-house, he noticed that smaller corporations had no options when it came to representation in the commercial real estate arena. At a time when outsourcing was subnormal, it was clear that the public needed an entrepreneurial industry leader to establish the market. Rising to the challenge, Paul Himes created the first third-party project management, construction management and construction consulting firm in the Washington DC metropolitan area. With his first client, the Prudential Insurance Company of America, on board, Himes quickly built a reputation for himself as a world class provider of Owner’s Representation Services.

During Himes Associates’ formative years, Paul capitalized on his extensive construction industry background to educate the market on the benefits of third-party representation. With the enactment of the Tax Reform Act of 1986 and 1987 and the melt down of the Savings and Loan industry in the early 1990’s, outsourcing gained national acceptance and quickly rose in popularity. Clients were eager to have Himes lift the burden inherent to planning, budgeting, design and construction, thus granting more time to focus on running their core business.
