Covance

Himes Associates, Ltd. was hired to provide Project Management and Integration services to oversee the construction of a new office/bio-analytical laboratory building for Covance Labs North America. Adjacent to the new building is an existing office/laboratory building that was the primary facility for Covance Central Lab Services. Management felt that there would be advantages to co-locate these different business units to take advantage of Covance’s existing presence in the Indianapolis market.

The existing facility was a 300,000+ SF laboratory dedicated to pre-clinical bio-analytical chemistry. The new facility was an 85,000 SF two-story structure (35,000 SF LC/MS/MS Laboratory, 35,000 SF of office/expansion and a 10,000 SF Atrium connecting the two buildings). The new facility provides testing services to determine appropriate dosage and frequency from late discovery evaluation through Phase III clinical testing.

Himes Associates played a key role by integrating a large project team scattered across the country for this fast-tracked project. The primary team members were stationed in Madison, WI, Fairfax, VA, Gainsville, FL, Indianapolis, IN and Princeton, NJ. Himes successfully met the challenge of integrating these remote team members to successfully design and construct a “one of a kind” facility in very little time. The project was completed on time and $500,000 under budget with almost $200,000 of this amount being given back by the General Contractor under his revised Contract terms.
