Gannett

Project Scope

Himes Associates, Ltd. provided construction and relocation management planning and implementation of the consolidation and restack of Gannett’s owned facility in McLean, Virginia. The project included the clearing of USAT floors, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9 for leasing to outside tenants, and moving all staff currently there into the other Gannett tower floors as well as floors 2 and 3. The project was divided into three phases, with phase one being completed in 2013 and phases two and three to be completed in the future (schedule is still to-be-determined).

During phase one, the sixth floor was renovated to meet Gannett’s new space standards. This included the implementation of a new collaborative space plan and benching system from their traditional office intensive configuration and the consolidation of 135 employees into the new layout. Himes’ primary objective throughout the project lifecycle was to support the Gannett Corporate Real Estate and Facilities Management Team with the coordination, organization, planning and implementation of relocation, portfolio consolidation and space optimization plans within the Gannett Headquarters as well as manage and oversee the resulting “shuffle and/or churn” relocation projects supporting major moves.

Himes achieved this objective by providing comprehensive project management for all aspects of the project including: developing the master schedule and budget; managing the General Contractor and Move Vendor procurement; managing the design process; construction; FF&E; move implementation and coordination; relocation planning; and project close-out.
